How it all started

How did it all get started?

Before digging deeper into this topic, allow me to thank you all for your great comments and inputs. May it be received on the blog, via email, phone call or personal. Most of you liked the tune. Some of you had great inputs for commercial release such as adding real music or making it more peppy. Some of you were curious how it all started. And almost all of you adored the lyrics and felt that I was paying more attention to the poetry than just the music.

I wanted to reply to each one who commented on the blog. However, there doesn’t seem to be a provision and the only way around is a hack. I will get there some day.

Unfortunately, some of you had trouble listening to the song since the volume was low. For those I have re-uploaded the song here.

Few others had difficulty while posting comments. The easy way is to select Name/URL from the dropdown and then post a comment. You don’t have to create a profile. And if you are logged into Gmail, I guess it automatically detects you.

I truly appreciate all your time and responses; it provides great encouragement.

Now to the topic -

It was in my teens that I developed the knack of playing music with my mouth. Might sound funny ; but I did. Apart from the fact that I was already singing Kishore Kumar songs (my best friend encouraged me for that) and had also won few singing competitions; the other thing I was doing was to make sounds of drum beats, guitar, sitar, or so by mouth. All that effort was unnoticed and unrealized. And was probably just noise for most of our neighbors who were pretty close to complaining about my bathroom singing. Believe me, music or sound that is unheard of, is always considered as noise by the human brain.

It was not until I got married when my beloved wife noticed this activity while I was taking shower .. restrooms and showers being the common places where genius ideas emerge :)

She noticed it and was thrilled that I had this talent. She then recommended that I should start recording these tunes; And then, on our very first wedding anniversary she gifted me a voice recorder. Ever since, I have been recording every other tune that comes to mind and by now, I have about 200 to 300 tunes,
songs, tracks on that recorder.

She was really the one who encouraged me and still continues to do so. She probably is the real inspiration for all my songs. Don’t get me wrong though. Not all songs I have composed so far are related to me, my wife or our love life. The last song I posted though, does have some significance in our life.

After our first wedding anniversary when Valentine’s Day was around I wanted to write a surprise song for her-- Don’t start thinking that I have found a secret way around gifts, ;) Funny. Whenever, there is an occasion.. compose a surprise song and be done. Well no.That’s not the case. So, I wanted to compose a surprise song and this is what I put together. It wasnt in the spur of the moment. The entire song has undergone several revisions before it was finalized. But what I put in front of her that day was just a basic tune with few lyrics.

As any other couple who have dated long enough, we went through some rough patches too. There was time when I was alone and the lyrics of the song - Tere Bina - do have the emotions and do convey the message I wanted to communicate to her then.

With that, stay tuned for my next post and song. Don’t worry, not every post will be this long .. cause I am no Amitabh to write great content or to know that you'll read it all.

Thanks again! Have a gr8 weekend! =)
