Do all songs have stories to tell? And do all of them draw any relation to things going through the songwriters mind? Well, we hardly pay much attention to what a song’s background is while listening to it. We just focus on the meaning of the song, appreciate the lyrics and if there is a video, we get a new perspective into what the songwriter may be trying to convey.

The area that we haven’t explored yet is the one that deals with the part when the songs are in the making. No, I am not talking about how a song is recorded, what equipment is used, etc. But what exactly are the premises of a song. For instance, there might be a sad song when a songwriter was lonely or going through a break up. Another time, it might be that someone felt ignored and wrote a song about the fact that they would care less. At times, there is absolutely no correlation between what a songwriter composes and their personal life. It could just be the mood.

We are always exposed to the finished product. May it be upcoming artists or professionals; everyone is focused on publishing a finished song and getting it signed. And the reason - that’s how the music industry demands it. But this very fact is changing. The next big revolution with the music industry is going to be the ability to publish songs as they are created. Songwriter’s usage of audio tweets would be common and songs will be shared with the public at the very moment a songwriter thinks about it.

The question then is – Will we be ready for this revolution? And will we be interested? I guess we will find out one way or another. This blog is a step in that direction. May be it will encourage other songwriters and music composers to share their songs at every step and make us part of their journey, the way all of you have been part of this journey.

To wrap it up, here’s another emotional romantic song that I composed, a few months ago. This time it’s for the West too. After all, gotta follow the saying – When in Rome … and you know the rest. So, this is my attempt towards it.

I am proud of this song coz I was finally able to use the Pro recording software (Cubase AI4) that came with my Yamaha MM-6 keyboard and learnt how to transfer MIDI files from my keyboard to the computer and mix a song along with Vocal effects. Before that, I literally held the Mic against the Keyboard speakers to record the soundtrack and later recorded my vocals. I never revealed it to you folks earlier. But I really felt handicapped at the time. So now I have made some progress. Still, there’s a lot to learn.

You may notice that the distortion guitar sound used in this is not the best. There might be some issues with the rhythm too. Also, some inconsistencies while singing and issues with the pronunciations; that part being natural due to my Indian accent :-)

Hone Do Subah

Have you ever watched a movie and felt there should have been more. Such movies manage to create an impact on our thought process. They always leave us wanting for more and we are badly left craving for a sequel. Unfortunately, whenever they come up with the sequel, they miserably fail and we are always left unsatisfied. There are only a few movies where the sequels have lived up to our expectations; in some cases have even been better than the first part.

This exact same process occurs during music composition except for the latter part. The moment you come up with a tune, you are left craving for the lyrics and the moment you finish the beginning of a song you can’t wait to compose the “Antras” or the next “Verse”. It never gets boring. Believe it or not, certain tunes are so mesmerizing that you don’t even realize where to stop. There would have been more than one occurrence, where I may have thought of composing an additional verse every time I finished the prior. I had to stop at some point coz you can’t potentially have 10 verses in one song. That’s unheard of.

With the same thought, this time I am uploading an incomplete song. Frankly speaking, given my recent busy schedule, it was getting tougher and tougher to stay consistent with the blog. Especially, if I had to finish every song, along with musical arrangements, uploading the song and writing the blog .. ugh. But as I composed this song, I thought of sharing it with you right away. So here it is.

Hopefully, it will keep you wanting for more and as and when I finish it up, you might enjoy it even more. Better yet, I would actually like to invite you to help me finish this song. Provide me your inputs on what you think should be the lyrics for the “Antra”. If you can’t come up with the lyrics, you could just record a tune for the “Antra’’. Recording is easy. Something to see

It’s said that Silence Speaks Louder Than Words. However, with the constant chaos and turmoil around us this phrase seems to be fading away. The general trend seems to be that if you want to be heard then try to be as loud as you can.

Most recently I received inputs from some of my dearest blog followers that, apart from uploading the song audios, I should also start exploring song videos. After giving it some thought, I came up with the idea of composing videos with pictures and the song lyrics; me obviously not being a qualified personality to feature in a video  :P.

Previously when I had uploaded this song - Har Ghadi Hai Juda, I received some positive comments. Everyone thought that the song had a different feel to it.  Now, with the video it might give you a better perspective; A better insight.

Once again, in the memory of Kishore Kumar

Last week was full of mixed emotions for me. While it was the great legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan’s birthday on Oct 11th and my loving elder brother’s birthday on Oct 12th, it was Kishore Kumar’s 23rd Death Anniversary on Oct 13th. As a tribute to him, I would like to present another one of my compositions for him.


Kishore da was a versatile singer and was also a great composer. It is unfortunate that at the time several maestros type casted him for just singing fun-filled, masti, halla gulla songs. Little did anyone recognize his amazing talent in the arena of singing soft romantic, emotional or rather “Dardbhare” songs; Songs like “Koi Humdum Na Raha”, “Chingari Koi Bhadke” or “Koi Hota Jisko Apna” have left a huge impact on our hearts and souls and will stay there forever.

When I composed this song, the idea was to steer away from the musical style of the last Kishore Kumar song that I had composed – “Karo Thoda Intezaar” and give a new perspective to the audience. It is also slightly inspired by the beautiful song “Aa chalke tujhe main leke chalun” from “Door Gagan Ki Chaon Mein” – again a Kishore da musical masterpiece. And just like all the other times, I wish he was alive and heard this composition, even sung it for me.

Well, the reality is that I still have long ways to go to even have my neighbor consider my songs for singing :) not that I know whether he/she is a good singer or not.

That reminds me; Full credit to my dear wife for the beautiful melody of this song. She was just humming this tune one time and when I heard it fell in love with it. Immediately thought of putting it together and it turned out be a song just for Kishore da. Just like I had said in my previous posts – you never know how a song may come about and sometimes just the first few words or the starting tune could dictate everything else related to the song. And never miss a tune you might be humming or whistling or singing.

Another good news for the blog is that Amitabh actually acknowledged the last post and expressed his “Many Thanks”. Got a screenshot just in case no one believes me ;D. You could also visit my twitter profile for more proof.. lolz. I was spellbound when I saw his reply on twitter. So thanks again to the fans, followers, critics and abusers of this blog … it’s because of you that this blog still survives.

Happy Birthday Big B

Finally, an opportunity to dedicate a song composition to the greatest legend - Shri Amitabh Bachchan. Today is his 68th Birthday and every year just like millions of his fans I have wanted to present him a gift. But the best I could offer is my love and prayers for his well being. This year I have something special to represent my love for him.

Since the 80’s songs have been composed specifically for Amitji. Songs like Mere Angne Mein, Rang Barse, etc. were a big hit. And recently music composers further experimented with his immense singing talent for movies like Baghban or Babul or even Nishabd. If you listen to them carefully you would realize how much he excels in the singing arena too. Some of these songs also have a touch of Hindustani classical music.
It was therefore a daunting task upon me as I was composing this song to try and be at par. This song is also inspired from the beautiful romantic emotional song “Main Yahan Tu Wahan” from Baghban.

Again, I understand that it may not match his caliber and some of you may also find it offensive. So please accept my apologies and realize that the composition comes from my heart. I have put in a lot of efforts and it is just a token of my love.

The recording is not the best in the world and I have also attempted Amitji’s impersonation for the only reason to present it as I was hearing it from within.

Remember the time when we were in our teenage lives, single and always wanting to break free. When we were all in for getting wasted and break all the rules and live a fantasy life. That was the time when we wanted to change the world and cross all the boundaries. Well, that was also the time when we were in constant search of a companion. A companion with whom we would do everything that we’d thought of doing different than what the society dictates. Here’s a tribute to that time.
A song for the times when we were not so mature enough to understand that eventually we would have to get adapted to our surroundings and fall in to the general mould of what a responsible person is supposed to be. Comedy of Errors

Have you ever wondered if the lyrics of a song were somehow goofed up how funny that song would sound? In colloquial language, words are interchangeably used in whichever context desired by the communicator. We’ve started noticing this even in modern day songs. However, some words have true meaning and they definitely cannot be messed with, moreover when the words are from a wonderful song composed by a renowned lyricist. Well, now I am loosing context here.

Let me explain. The song “Dil Dhundta” is one of my favorite songs. How could it not be? It’s from the wonderful movie “Mausam”. Everything was great about the movie. Especially this song, which is written by the great lyricist Gulzar. Now, even though this may have been my favorite song or there are several other Gulzar songs that are my favorite, I must honestly admit I never spent an extra minute on trying to understand Gulzar saab’s lyrics. Obviously not his fault. Totally my ignorance. So from this wonderful song we all know the memorable line – “Aundhe Padhe Rahe Kabhi ,Karwat Liye Huye”. For the longest time, I knew the feel of this particular song, but I never sung it with full understanding. Especially this line. I always kept singing “Aundhe padhe” forgetting the remaining lines. And most recently I confused “Aundhe” for “Os”. “Aundhe” means lying on your back and “Os” means Dew. For some reason, I always remembered “Aundhe Padhe”. So with the idea that something’s falling I drew the conclusion that may be it’s Dew.

The song that you would be listening to would have been a total disaster if I had used “Aundhe” in the context that I had used it in earlier. Here are the previous lyrics –

- Which would mean .. “I am lying on my back, everywhere on the streets, under the blue sky, whenever you come across” – Would have been a great song for a drunken romeo.
When I had originally thought of these lines I meant “Dew Drops everywhere, under the blue sky, whenever you come across”.

So as soon as I found that I had messed with the word “Aundhe”, I changed my lyrics and here’s the modified song. It’s another romantic song. It speaks about enjoying nature while in the company of your beloved. I recorded this song late at night. So there might be few flaws with my singing. And sorry for a late blog. I was travelling and I forgot to carry the microphone with me. I had one, but I am talking about the better one that doesn’t expose my shaky voice.

Sometimes we wonder whether we have reached where we wanted to be. Or are we in the right profession; or achieved what we wanted to. Whatever we are doing on a day-to-day basis, whether that’s what we were built for. When I look around and see great achievers like Amitabh Bachchan, Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore da or Sachin Tendulkar, and admire what they achieved in their lives it seems like they knew why they were brought on this planet. It’s like, at some point God told them – Hey you have to be a World Renowned Actor or that you have to be the Nightingale of India or the greatest Cricket player ever.

Wouldn’t it be nice if God or whoever that creates us (This one’s for the non-believers), tells us at some point in our life what we were really born for. Even if he tells us that one is to lead an aimless life we could tell the world – Hey that’s what God told me. I gotta do nothing and lead an aimless life .. ha ha. Not funny. The matter of the fact is we are all left with determining what we need to do with our lives. Coz if it was certain, life won’t be so exciting.

Speaking of me, as a notorious kid in school I never imagined obtaining a degree in engineering and ending up being an IBM product specialist. I always wanted to be an artist - a painter, an actor or a singer. So here I am again trying to pursue my creative interests while keeping my day job :-)

Don’t worry. This song ‘Kabhi Kabhi’ is not about my aimless thoughts of wondering where this passion will lead me. It’s just another romantic song from my closet. The beginning of the song was composed one year ago and I completed the rest last week. As for the soundtrack, I must say with limited knowledge of music, I am getting a little apt with the instrument. And it is addictive.

I know I didn’t upload a new post last Friday after saying I would be consistent the last time I had missed the posting. Well, this time it was a deliberate attempt. I will explain why. For some time I was feeling I wasn’t producing any new material and was just focusing on finishing up songs that I had composed a couple years ago. Every Friday the blog was turning into real work and
I was constantly keeping myself under pressure in order to deliver to my best ability. Honestly, it doesn’t quite work that way with creativity. Creativity needs to be spontaneous. There definitely needs to be a mood, some different kind of setting and most importantly a fresh mind.

I still don’t know how creative professionals pursue their interests as a job. I would be seriously struggling if I was told I had to compose 10 songs within a certain period of time where each song is based on a situation and that they should match the Production companies signature tastes, e.g YashRaj Films. No matter which music composer they choose when you listen to their songs you can tell it’s a song from a YashRaj movie.

Anyway, bottom line is that your hobby cannot be a full-time job when pursued as a hobby. And the best outcome of creativity is actually when it is pursued as a hobby and not a job. Otherwise it turns into a mundane activity. I managed to compose four to five new songs last week which I will complete and upload eventually.

Deewane Kyun …

The other day we’d invited few friends over for dinner and while we were exploring my Yamaha MM-6 synthesizer I played them the song “Karo Thoda Intezaar” which I had composed for the great Kishore Kumar on his 81st birth anniversary. After I was done playing, they asked me – “Hey, did you compose the song before laying down the track?” - And amazingly so we all said together “Well that’s what happens most of the times. Doesn’t it? ” But later that triggered something in my mind.


I started thinking could I possible pick up an existing track or pattern on the Keyboard and compose a song from it. So I picked the default Instrument Voice built in the keyboard “Power Grand” and the default pattern “SouthernRap1”. Then there is an option called “Finger”. What that does is, you can just select a key on the left half portion of the keyboard and it would automatically figure out the chord. So if you placed your finger on the Key ‘C’, then it would consider that as playing the ‘C’ chord and match it up with the other instruments such as drums, guitar, etc. And that was the starting point.

The toughest part was to figure the remaining chords while I was singing the song and later when I composed the “Antra” without matching the progression from the synthesizer it was especially tough to figure out the corresponding chords. Then I added some variations within the Pattern to switch it from pattern A to pattern B to pattern C during different portions of the song. But even now I am not totally happy with the way I placed the background score for the “Antra”.

Anyway, the idea was not to create a great composition, but rather a simple composition with just the basic features of the keyboard. Bottomline, as I had mentioned earlier the intent of this blog is not to represent just my songs but also to let others know that song composition is not totally unachievable. I couldn’t believe I could do what I am doing now just a couple years ago and now I feel fairly satisfied with the songs I am putting together. So if you happen to whistle or humm an unknown tune don’t let it slide. Pay attention, try to record it or perform it for your loved ones. They may have some inputs too as there is a musician in each one of us; Or else we wouldn’t have been able to tell a good song from a bad song, Or relate one song to another and figure out that they sound similar or that they hold the same aura.

Rahee Tha Main Awaara

I was travelling this week and didn’t carry my synthesizer with me. So I am back to my guitar strumming for this song. You may notice that the song is inspired from the famous Kishore Da song “Rahee Tha Main Awara”. And by inspired, I don’t mean copied or remixed. It’s just that the first few lines of the song are similar to the one sung by Kishore da.


These days the word “Inspired” is so commonly used for songs that are revised, remixed or copied as is.

I am not there yet and I hope not to. Just a few years ago I always wondered that all around the world over several years mankind has produced so many songs and artists. How is it that we are still continuing to evolve? How come there is no point of saturation. After all, there are just so many notes and chords and rhythms and keys. Then why is it that the human brain can still produce melodies or tunes that are unheard of.

Well, sometimes we do notice a lot of music composers (at least in our Indian Film Industry) tend to get monotonous over time or literally start copying songs from the West or other parts of the world. After I started composing, I noticed several similar instances where the music was sounding monotonous; where two songs seemed very similar to each other. As for the copying, I wonder whether that would be a nightmare for any creative artist. Do you think any music composer would be willingly conducting such activities or whether it is a matter of survival? If any professional music composer reaches a point of saturation and stops composing I can then imagine him/her to continue to create remixes or duplicate songs until they can reinvent themselves. These days since I am focusing on finishing up existing songs and not creating anything new, I get the paranoia myself about running out of tunes and melodies pretty soon.

In the Spirit of Independence Day

I know I didn’t update the blog on Friday, and that’s because I wanted to wait until today - 15th August, India’s Independence Day; the day when India finally got its freedom from the British Rule.


In our own way we always strive to do something for our country. No matter where we are, we have a strong connection with our mother land and on this day each one of us celebrates it in our own manner.

Consider this song my celebration of India’s 63 years of freedom.

Allow me to take a moment and explain this song in detail. First of all, it has drawn inspiration from lot of other songs. You would find traces of our National Anthem, few soundtrack effects similar to the song “Haan yehi rasta tera” from the movie “Lakshya”, some lyrical inspiration from “Panchi, Nadiya, Pawan”“ from the movie “Refugee” and most importantly the spirit is from a scene from the movie “Paa”. The very first one, where the legendary Amitabh Bachchan had painted the Globe white signifying a World without boundaries, countries, religion, caste, creed or racism. That scene is buried deep down in my heart and it probably touched several other million hearts too.

This song also has its own situational significance. Let me try and create a scene for you and may be when you listen to the song you may feel it too. It is about a soldier. The war is over. They defeated the enemy and the soldier is standing alone on the battlefield. All numb, with corpses all around him. There is the moment of celebration but he is looking at the sky wondering what they really achieved from the war. His heart rate is increasing constantly and this song runs in the background. The song conveys his thoughts.

Remembering Kishore Kumar: A song composed just for him

Some of you might be surprised about an early post; on a Wednesday instead of Friday. But I couldn’t stop myself from sharing this amazing song I wrote, composed, sung and recorded for the one and only legendary Kishore Kumar on his 81st birth anniversary. This is my tribute to him.

I have worshipped two celebrities throughout my life; Amitabh and Kishore da. There is not a single occasion when I have not wished if there was some way of paying homage to these Gods of mine.

And soon after I discovered my passion for composing songs; it dawned on me that this is the only way I could truly honor them. It’s a totally different feeling. I have sung Kishore da’s songs on several occasions and have even been awarded for it. But I can’t explain the sense of achievement that I have felt after putting this song together.

I wish Kishore da was alive today. I wonder what he would have said if I had the opportunity to present this song to him. I know this dream of mine will never be fulfilled. But, imagine this song in a studio recording, with live musicians, and Kishore da actually singing it. Every time I think of it like that, I feel divine. This song may not be of his caliber, but I have written it for him from my heart.

I hope you feel the same way after listening to it. And I apologize to those who may find this offensive.

Behki Hawayein

Here’s another one on guitar. The strumming pattern is a little different than normal. It’s not continuous and gives the song a peppy feel. Imagine it with drums and lead guitar and the song would be complete. Ha ha .. that’s asking too much of you guys.


Speaking of the song, this one in particular evolved while I was playing around with my guitar. I was trying different chord combinations and strumming patterns and suddenly I came up with this melody along with the lyrics. That rarely happens. Later I finished the song without my guitar and of course the most difficult task was to put it all back together; especially, the second “antra”. I had to rip it off cause I just couldn’t fit it in. The main reason being it takes the song to a different level and in most cases when that happens in a song you need what’s called a ‘bridge’. That’s nothing but a different set of chords that would transition from the ones you were already using. The transition has to be smooth so that the audience doesn’t catch it. Well, with my limited knowledge and time I couldn’t do it. So, the second “antra” is not in the recording, but I have kept it in the lyrics section below. Take the liberty to sing it whichever way you like. You may also notice that the singing is not the best either. There are several flaws. So please pardon me for it.

I hope you still enjoy the recording with just one “antra”. There will be several occasions later to finish the song and re upload it as I progress. Believe me each one of these songs will go through several revisions and the final rendition would be way different from what you are listening today. But, the most amazing part about this whole experience is the journey that all of you are part of.

Teri Har Adaa

First of all, I apologize for not uploading a post last week. I worked 15hrs on Thursday and 18hrs on Friday with hardly any time to record a song or write a post. The weekend went busy too. But there really shouldn’t be any excuses. I shall certainly try to be more consistent from now on. For this one time, please accept my apology.

It also took me some time to prepare this song, as I wanted to accompany it with a little guitar strumming. It wasn’t easy. I am still struggling with being able to play the guitar while singing the song. So I had to record the guitar first and then record my voice over it. That’s typically how a recording is conducted these days. You have multiple tracks in a recording with different instrument voices and the Vocals are introduced later into the mix. Nothing further; Even I am not so well aware of a commercial song recording.

Halke Halke

It’s amazing, how a song evolves from just the first few lines. I was humming the tune of this particular song for quite some time. I had the melody for the Mukhda. But for the lyrics, I constantly stopped at Halke Halke. Just couldn’t move forward. Wasn’t really sure what the lyrics should be from that point on. And whatever I came up with, didn’t have a rhyming second line. For example- Halke Halke baarish ki bunde, Halke Halke hawa ke zokein, Halke Halke jaam yeh chalkein, etc. Tried several combinations.

Until this past weekend when I managed to finish the first two lines - Halke Halke, Yeh Kadam Badhe, Jaise Tumse, Yeh Nayan Lade.

And that pretty much dictated the entire song. The first two lines express that a person is shy from moving forward whenever they see this special person. Later, few more lines also dictated that this should be a female song.

Koi Mere Humdum Se Pooche …

In Hindi movies, there is always a sequence where the heroine gets tremendously upset with the hero and he always has to make up with her with a song. If you notice, there is always a pattern with these songs. They always begin with him really not knowing the reason why the heroine is upset and eventually letting her know that he loves her so much that he would die for her, making her feel guilty, finally having her forgive all his mistakes. It’s amazing how things get all sorted out in one song sequence; unlike in real life ;)


Another thing to notice, in 80% of these songs, it’s always the heroine who gets upset most of the times. Hmm .. now that is more real life like. Well, gotta be careful coz my wife reads this blog too.

Let’s not get side tracked. The point is, here‘s a song from my closet that is suitable for a typical Hindi movie sequence described above. And it’s more so because at one point I was humming tunes that were more like typical romantic Hindi movie songs. Not for any particular reason. That’s where you might find similarities between this song and my earlier songs like “Mujhe Pyar Ho Gaya” or “Socha Na Tha”.

Beyond Limits

Music has no boundaries. It travels across countries, religions, cultures and tastes. It is not restricted to a language, or any cast and creed. Yet it sets the right mood, expresses the right emotions and activates the right nerve. One could be a Jazz fan, yet could right a Pop song, or could be a Hindi music composer and still create a rave in the west.

The Slumdog Millionaire song “Jai Ho” may not be the best composition by the great A. R. Rahman, but even with that he could draw the World’s attention.

Music is one art that single handedly has the power to create peace. Peace that can be everlasting. For instance, India and Pakistan; both countries have different styles of music, may it be classical or modern. Yet they both inspire each other. We’ve always seen India embracing Pakistani singers, musicians and artists; as well we’ve seen huge Pakistani fans of Bollywood movies.

And yes, it doesn’t matter if you are an Indian composing a Pakistani style song. It may still sound authentic. Pakistani music itself is a fusion of music from parts of South Asia, as well as Central Asian, Persian, Turkish, Arabic music and of course modern day Western music .

Here’s my attempt towards composing a Pakistani style song. I would like to imagine it is similar to the styles of Atif Aslam or Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, the son of legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Of course I am dreaming. So you let me know what you think.

The Process of Song Writing

Song writing or song composition is the most beautiful art. The main reason being it’s unpredictable. You don’t plan for it. You don’t strategize. There isn’t just one concept, story or situation that forms the foundation. There are several aspects. It could be in any mood or setting. It can evolve from a simple whistle or humming tune. If you play an instrument, it might be something you encounter while practicing your notes and hit the right key, forming the right progression.


And truly I won’t be saying all this if I hadn’t discovered this wonderful hobby. Again, all what I said could only be possible if you are pursuing it as a hobby. Coz for movie music composers; there may be always a situation that the movie director expects all the songs to be based on and then of course there is the pressure of delivery. I already feel the pressure of finishing each song before updating the blog every Friday. Plus I can be vulnerable. I can make mistakes. Only then would you want to rectify them.

So back to the process of song writing. Let’s take this song for instance. I don’t quiet remember, when and how I thought of it. All I know is that, I was on the road. May be travelling, and suddenly I thought of the words ‘Phirta Rahun’ along with the tune. Then from listening to Hindi songs and with the common course of lyrics the human brain is trained to, you would think of ‘Phirta Rahun’ in conjunction with ‘Haseen Wadiyon Mein’, ‘Raston Mein’, etc. I thought of ‘Anjani Rahon Mein’. And sure enough that formed the foundation, concept and situation, all at once. Coz if you think about it; If a person is wandering around through unknown trails then he is either trying to find a way out or seeking love. I came up with seeking love and that’s how the rest of the song developed.

Hate to decipher the song like that, but just trying to explain the process.

Who knew, being in love was so difficult. We hear about it all the time from others ….. How difficult life is ever since they fell in love, how they are willing to die for someone special … et al.

We never pay much attention and always assume we would be prepared for it. Until it hits us; and then we are left wondering why are we longing for that special someone, what’s with the sleepless nights, what’s with not enjoying our time with friends and what’s with all the happening parties seeming incomplete without our beloved.

Love at first sight

It was a tough evening yesterday while composing this song. I have being humming the tune for 2 years, but never took the time to complete it. Hence everything was last minute and forgive me if you notice a hasty job.
Now let’s discuss this topic for a minute, before we move on to the song -
We all remember the days when we first fell in love; the first sight, the first touch, the first kiss ….

We can never forget the memories of when we first had the realization of love. When it happens, a ton of things go through our mind. How do we really know we are in love? We try to relate it to what we see in the movies or what others have expressed in the past or through written words like songs and poems. Bottomline, doesn’t matter what we experience we just know we are in love. And eventually, some of us, like me, get lucky that we get married with the person we’ve loved all the time.

My theory is, love only happens once; And when it happens, it should always be counted as the first sight. It is the first time when you see someone and realize you are in love.

And no, it’s not the case just for people who’ve dated before getting married or rather had a Love Marriage as is referred to in India. People who’ve being together through matrimonial sites or have had an Arranged Marriage, again a term relative to Indian marriages, also realize love at first sight.

Mehki Mehki Si Hawayein …

It is true that we don’t realize the value of a person or a thing when we have it. Little do we care to appreciate it on a day to day basis. Only when we are away from it or when we lose it, we realize how invaluable was it and then, sometimes, we just can’t do anything to recover; and yes, this happens for the most part in case of our loved ones or rather in case of that special someone … our beloved, our sweetheart, our darling.

It is true for any couple. There are moments when we take each other for granted and eventually end up hurting the other person unintentionally. Then when we are away; it could be for a week, a month, a year or may be forever, we cherish the moments that we happily spent together and badly want to be back again.

So, on a lonely day when all we have to ourselves is us and there is nothing around that we love, then all we could do is feel them in the air, remember all the good times and ask our loved ones to come back.

The same feeling is reflected in this song. For those who are away from their sweethearts and are badly missing them, try singing it with your eyes closed.

We constantly strive for a better tomorrow. Doesn’t matter where we live, we always have our set of issues with the whole system … May it be Political, Educational, Health, etc; or we have our opinion about how the system should be governed, conducted. Well, just how we think things could be better around us. It could be as tiny as a community or a neighborhood issue; doesn’t need to be the whole system.

But we always talk about it. As teenagers we might be actively involved in supporting social causes, but as we grow older we always end up discussing about it or forming an opinion or just be frustrated about it and we really do nothing more than that.

Ok, don’t get me wrong, I am not trying to preach here or say that I am a better human being than others or that I am really going to start doing something about making things better around us. No, I am not going to revolutionize our system. But maybe if we can support a social cause during our daily activities or convey a social message with our talent then we shouldn’t hesitate.

What Should Be The Genre?

This question comes across every once in a while. We have always seen in the past that solo performers classify their songs under a particular genre like Jazz, Blues, Pop, etc, whereas Motion Picture Soundtrack artists or Bollywood music composers are versatile and manage to compose songs over different genres.

I haven’t necessarily thought it through since I am not sure if I want to pursue it as a career one way or another. These compositions are solely based on the melodies that come to mind. Surprisingly, as an audience we are constantly exposed to songs from different genres and hence it seems any melody that may occur to us could belong to any genre.

However, if there is an opportunity to present these songs to a music company or even for any audience to get a grip of one’s song compositions, should it be necessary to classify your songs under one genre? Would it make more sense to someone if you had to present 10 song compositions and that every single one of them felt similar to other; that way the person listening to would understand your style. Or whether every single song should be different? Would it happen that then the audience wouldn’t know your style and hence songs would be nothing more than just plain simple noise … Well, that’s the question that constantly haunts me. May be I should have a poll for this.

Also, I must admit. I am naive when it comes to music. I have so far being able to classify these songs under different genres. But honestly, the visitors who truly understand music would declare it wrong. So the easy solution to this (came from my wife) should be to let the audience decide your song genres.

So today’s song is a little towards the Sufi style. But I could be wrong. I will let you decide, what do you think should be the Genre?
